Sun Bathing...Sorta

i had to take Scarlett in on saturday to get her bili level checked, and i got a call from the on call doctor letting me know her bili count was way to high and needed to have lights ordered to be brought to my house.
the lights were delivered and in no time at all Scarlett was catching some much needed rays. she had to be in there at all times except when I fed her. she didn't like being in the bed so much, and it would take forever to get her settled back in. she was under the lights for an entire week! the doctor thinks she had breastfeeding jaundice as well, so it was much harder to get the biliruben out of her body, so i fed her formula along with breastfeeding. it was torture keeping her in that bed, but once the therapy was complete we were all shouting hooray!

Welcome Home Scarlett

as far as i can tell Scarlett is happy with our home. she had a very warm welcome!

she tolerates all the love and kisses from everyone. the turner kids have been dying to meet her, so they all patiently waited their turn to hold her. i think they like her.
my dad, mom, and mystery came by with grandma chalmers in tow. i believe Scarlett is grandma chalmers 67th great grandchild.

ryan's family also came to give Scarlett a warm welcome. ryan's dad rodney, his little brother randy and his grandma rodgers. Scarlett is grandma julia's 8th great grand child

then we had a wonderful group of close friends come bearing gifts and love! my girlfriend jackie, our old neighbors adam and emily campora with their daughter kylie, my best friend elizabeth (our elizabeth's name sake) and her mother marianne leavitt, my wonderful visiting teacher tammy finklea, our dear friend pastor, and one of our favorite couples landon and mary cleverly.
thank you all for coming and sharing your love with our new little one. i think she is a keeper!

Heading Home

we came home on thursday and had a nice quiet morning waiting for the doc to come check us out. Scarlett has developing a splendid newborn rash from having the phototherapy (bilirubin lights) while in the hospital to prevent jaundice.
Scarlett tested positive for coombs, which puts her at a higher risk for jaundice. the bili lights expose her skin to light, which helps break down the biliruben in her body. hopefully with her being on the lights all throughout our hospital stay she won't need them when we get home, because her poor little heel has been pricked enough.
we are just excited to take Scarlett home!

Dr. Brown and Scarlett

i LOVE dr. brown! she is truly the best ob out there!

Pure Beauty of a Newborn

bella baby photography is a a company of independent photographers that come right into your hospital room to take newborn pictures. which is nice since most hospitals don't offer newborn pictures anymore.
after looking at the pictures and seeing Scarlett's chunk of cuteness, i just had to get the pictures!

Proud Big Sister

ryan and i are so blessed to have two healthy and beautiful girls. i couldn't ask for anything else!

Loved Our Hospital Stay

i have only ever left elizabeth overnight one time, and i left her with ryan. we have never both left her overnight, and she is almost four years old!
i have to admit i loved spending two whole days with my hubby and our new baby girl! plus the best part was our fantastic visitors! ryan's dad rodney came to see his second grandchild. my best friend rachael and her husband bryce stopped in. my big sister holly of course, i can't keep her away from me! my awesome cousin jon. then my favorite, my mom and my monkey girl elizabeth.
it was nice not having as many visitors this time around, because i was able to get some much needed sleep.

She Shall Be Called...

ryan and i always said how we wanted to meet our baby before we named her.
i thought since it took us so long in the hospital to name elizabeth, that we should probably discuss some names. however, we could never agree on any that we both liked.
there were MANY names i liked, but i LOVED the name Scarlett! ryan on the other hand, did not love the name. i thought just in case she looked like a Scarlett i should assist in helping him warm up to the name, you know just in case. so throughout my nine months of pregnancy i would call my belly Scarlett, you know, just to try out. i guess it worked because when she was born we both agreed she looked like a Scarlett. then of course you need a good middle name to complete it. my dad came to both our thoughts so strongly, and that was that. she had a name, and a good strong name at that! First Bath

ryan was able to give the baby her first bath in our room so i could watch.
to this point, we hadn't really heard her cry. even right after she was born she didn't cry and i had to keep asking if she was alright.
she made it clear to us that she had a good set of lungs as soon as ryan started bathing her. once ryan got to washing her hair, the nurse said how babies normally stop crying when their head is being washed, but not our baby girl, she was squealing away and i mean squealing! she was very happy once it was all over and done with.

Our First Visitors

after being moved out of labor and delivery, all i could think about was how excited i was for elizabeth to finally meet her little sister!
my dad hurried home and picked up jonathan, faith, mystery and elizabeth. since i have an amazing hubby, mom and sister, they stayed and pampered me in anything and everything i needed, yeah i know, they are the best!
i couldn't wait for elizabeth to get to the hospital because during my pregnancy, elizabeth LOVED my belly! she was always talking to the baby, and telling her everything she did, what she ate for lunch and how she was going to share her toys with her, she couldn't wait for her to be here...or so i thought.
i think she realized very quickly that she wasn't the only one anymore, and that she now had to share mommy and daddy.
i'm sure it was also being in a hospital and seeing tubes and wires all connected to me and laying in this bed with nurses attending to me. that would have made me nervous if it was her too. needless to say, she wasn't to interested in the baby, but she finally warmed up enough before they left and wanted to KISS the baby!

Once Again Proud Parents to a Beautiful Baby Girl!

The positive of this being my second delivery, is that I was able to be induced at 39 weeks! Those of you who may think,'oh what's another couple weeks', I guess you have never been pregnant. I was counting down the days to be induced and meet my baby girl!
I was ecstatic when we got the call from the hospital to head in. We arrived at the hospital at 8:00am, but had to wait till 10:35am to get started on pitociin.
Now most of you were aware that I was hugely pregnant, I mean, I was ALL belly! Come to find out towards the end of my pregnancy that just produced a lot of amniotic fluid. I was all baby and water, which of course was music to my ears!
Since there was so much water, it was VERY difficult to monitor the baby. Let just say my nurse and i become best friends, with her practically laying in my hospital bed with me holding the monitor and searching for the baby.
I was doing awesome on the pitocin, but the baby wasn't moving down at all, I think she physically had a hold of my rib and wouldn't let go...not to mention all the water was keeping her afloat.
My doctor decided it was time to 'trickle' my water. you heard me, she couldn't just break my water because there was so much that it could move the baby down to fast, or the baby could flip easily. Since my contractions were starting to increase, she wanted the epidural placed first, which was fine by me!
I was getting a little nervous about the epidural because I didn't have a good experience with my first delivery, so I was a bit anxious. My contraction suddenly increased in time and strength, and so did my nerves! The anesthesiologist made it into my room at 1:42pm to place the epidural, and I didn't hold back in voicing my concerns. He guaranteed he was an excellent doctor. He got me all prepared, and even let my awesome support group stand and hold my hand, as soon as he entered with the IV into my back I screamed out in pain! I couldn't stop myself, I could feel all the pressure and my whole body was shocked with pain. I kept screaming out 'I CAN FEEL IT, I CAN FEEL IT!'. The anesthesiologist proceeded to explain that the epidural space closed on him, which meant he needed to do it again. Once again, I could feel it, SCREAMING and SOBBING out in pain! Once again the space closed. I guess third times a charm, because it worked, and it was heavenly once it was placed. although i felt badly that i made a big manly man doctor sweat so much. Afterward, I looked at Ryan and I thought he was going to cry, or throw up, I couldn't tell, lol. He said that was awful to watch and hear me scream out and to have stand there and do nothing. I think at that moment,he had a huge appreciate that he didn't have to bear children, lol.
Now, I just have to say that epidurals are HEAVENLY!! Although it was painful to get, I would do it all over again!
Now that the epidural was placed, my wonderful ob 'slit' my water at 2:46pm. when she said it would be a tickle, i really thought it was going to be a trickle. False. it felt like a river, I just had to laugh about it.
my ob checked me at 5:30pm and i was still only dilated to a 5. FINALLY the baby descended, and it didn't take long after that.
It was only 5:50pm and all the sudden I felt so much pressure like I should start pushing. I told the nurse, and she explained that with the baby moving down and just being checked I may feel more pressure which was normal, but she would check me in 30 minutes.
The pressure was overwhelming, and I asked her to please check me again. I went from a 5 to a 10 in 20 minutes, the baby and I were ready!
Three pushes later, Ryan and I were once again proud parents of a beautiful baby girl!

Jordan River Utah Temple

"i urge our people everywhere, with all of the persuasiveness of which i am capable, to live worthy to hold a temple recommend, to secure one and regard it as a precious asset, and to make a greater effort to go to the house of the lord and partake of the spirit and the blessings to be had therein."
—gordon b. hinckley

our february Temple pick was the jordan river Temple!! we thought we should do february early, just in case this baby of ours decides to come early.
the jordan river Temple is so beautiful, and once again we were in good company.

i'm going to challenge you all every month to make this a goal of your own to attend the Temple at least once a month. i already feel so much closer to my Savior!
